Fine Art and Craft

Art and craft inspired by environments.

Running the C&O Canal towpath is never boring -- every month the canal, the Potomac river, and the surrounding woods change. The light changes and alters the way we see the locks and the lockhouses. Paddling out of the cove in Maine to explore the coast line is an adventure in discovery because every day the tides bring new objects to shore. The stand of trees near the lobster pound changes from bright green to black as the sun dips below the horizon.

These ever-changing environments are the basis of my current two-dimensional work. Along with the buildings near my home in Cheverly, Maryland and creatures from near and far. And no matter where I might be -- hiking in Hocking Hills, Ohio, paddling the Maine shoreline, or running the C&O Canal towpath or Anacostia River Trail -- I am always trying to figure out how I can carry whatever I find back home!

Cheverly Pottery, www.cheverlypottery.com, is currently my full-time job in addition to the two- and three-dimensional multi-media work I create, sell, and show. In 1995 I graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design with a Bachelors of Fine Arts. Life brought me to the Washington, DC area where I was a founding member of Art-O-Matic, an all-volunteer run arts exhibition featuring artists and performers from the Washington, DC area. Eventually I found my way into nonprofit fundraising and have greatly enjoyed a 25-year career working for advocacy, arts, and education non-profits.
